Tesla’s recent update to its iOS app now enables users to check the Supercharging progress of their vehicle directly from their phone’s lock screen, as reported by Not a Tesla App.
This new feature utilizes Apple’s Live Activities capability, which allows apps to provide real-time updates on the lock screen. For instance, users can see when their Uber is arriving or when their ParkMobile parking meter is nearing expiration. For Tesla owners, the Live Activity feature keeps track of the charging session, helping to notify them when charging is complete to prevent idle fees.
The Supercharger Live Activity displays essential information such as the remaining time in a charging session, the current battery percentage, estimated costs, charging speed, and the amount of energy added. However, this feature does not activate when charging at home or at non-Supercharger locations.
In addition to the iOS update, Tesla is introducing a new safety feature for some newer electric vehicles that alerts drivers if they inadvertently leave a child in the car. This "Child Left Alone" feature is currently being rolled out in Europe, specifically for the latest Model 3 (mid-2023 and later), equipped with in-cabin radar technology. This system can detect occupants in the front seats and is now expanding its monitoring capabilities to the back seat. Tesla has indicated plans to extend this feature to additional models and regions in the future.
