Former President Donald Trump has issued a warning to Apple, proposing a tariff of “at least 25 percent” on iPhones unless the company shifts its production base to the United States.
“I previously informed Tim Cook of Apple that I expect the iPhones sold in the United States to be manufactured domestically, rather than in India or elsewhere,” Trump noted on Truth Social. “If this condition is not met, a tariff of at least 25% will be required from Apple to the U.S. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
This threat follows Trump’s remarks where he mentioned having had “a little problem with Tim Cook,” in light of reports indicating that Apple plans to increase its iPhone production in India to avoid higher tariffs on goods imported from China to the U.S.
