On Friday, the company shared an enigmatic post on X (formerly Twitter) featuring what seems to be Sam Fisher, the iconic protagonist from the stealth action-adventure series. Accompanied by eye and mouth emojis, the post simply stated “#SplinterCell” without additional explanation.
Inevitably, this cryptic message sparked a frenzy among Splinter Cell enthusiasts, with users on X expressing a mix of excitement and caution, urging Ubisoft not to lead them on or let them down. Polygon has reached out to Ubisoft for comments and will provide updates as new information emerges.
Although Ubisoft has maintained a low profile regarding the future of the Splinter Cell franchise, a recent job posting on the company’s career page has generated interest among fans.
The job listing seeks a level design director tasked with “developing a vision for the game’s distinct stealth-based missions, distilling the overarching direction into exciting, tense, and well-executed gameplay experiences.”
Additional responsibilities for the level design director include “[creating] and showcasing examples of engaging gameplay scenarios that embody the essence of Splinter Cell.”
Ubisoft last teased its ongoing Splinter Cell Remake project back in December 2021, when they posted a video on YouTube discussing the highly anticipated game. The video featured a narrator recounting the history of the stealth franchise and confirmed that some original developers, now at Ubisoft Toronto, are returning to remake the 2002 title.
“Using the original Splinter Cell as our baseline, we are rewriting and modernizing the story for today’s audience,” the now-deleted post stated. “We aim to preserve the spirit and themes of the original while deepening our exploration of the characters and the world to enhance authenticity and believability.”
Fans might receive more insights into Ubisoft’s plans for Sam Fisher during the Summer Game Fest, which is set to begin on Friday, June 6, at 2 p.m. PT / 5 p.m. ET / 9 p.m. GMT.
Until then, Splinter Cell fans, keep your hopes alive.
