Bandai Namco is taking a bold step with their new interpretation of Pac-Man in the 2D action platformer called Shadow Labyrinth. This game presents a dark, sci-fi aesthetic reminiscent of Metroid, diverging from the classic Pac-Man style. However, hidden within it is authentic Pac-Man gameplay. A recently released trailer for Shadow Labyrinth showcases a segment known as the Maze, which strongly resembles the style of Pac-Man Championship Edition 3.
Players will take on the role of a mysterious character named Swordsman No. 8, who is guided by a Pac-Man-shaped companion named Puck. Together, they aim to become the top predator on an alien planet. Throughout Shadow Labyrinth, gamers will encounter genuine Pac-Man maze levels influenced by the Championship Edition series, featuring classic pellet- and ghost-chomping action. The game introduces innovative elements to the Pac-Man formula, including jumping mechanics, boost pads, epic giant ghost boss encounters, and various types of mazes.
If Shadow Labyrinth hasn’t quite piqued your interest yet, it might be worth revisiting your impressions after watching the new trailer.
Shadow Labyrinth is set to launch on July 18 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
