Elon Musk’s platform, X, seems to be experiencing a major outage. Users are reporting that feeds are not loading, and direct messages are also affected.
A quick look at Down Detector shows a notable spike in reports starting around 8 AM ET, with complaints rising sharply and beginning to level off after that. Additionally, social media users have been expressing frustrations with the platform for several days; one of the top posts in the r/Twitter Reddit community features a screenshot of an error message on the X login screen, with numerous comments from users unable to access their accounts.
This outage follows a fire that occurred Thursday morning at an Oregon data center owned by X. According to Wired, unnamed sources have reported that the fire, which prompted a substantial emergency response, involved batteries in one of the facility’s rooms. Although there were initial complaints about the site going down shortly after the fire, those outages appeared to be minor. It remains uncertain if today’s issues are related.
X has yet to respond to The Verge regarding requests for further information on the situation.
