Yale's Smart Lock: Fingerprint-Activated ADT Security Disarm Function

ADT has stated that the Z-Wave 800 Series lock can function independently as a Z-Wave lock with any compatible Z-Wave system; however, the ability to disarm the security system using the lock is currently limited to ADT Plus. ADT is pioneering the Command Class standard in the security industry, and if they choose to expand support, the lock may become compatible with additional security systems in the future.

This is only the second Z-Wave-compatible lock with fingerprint access, following Ultraloq’s earlier Z-Wave lock featuring a fingerprint reader. However, while Ultraloq’s model only unlocks the door, Yale’s version is the first to enable system control via Z-Wave with fingerprint authentication.

The new lock is a Z-Wave adaptation of Yale’s Assure Lock 2 Touch, which combines Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technology with fingerprint access. Besides fingerprint access and ADT app control, the Z-Wave lock can also be operated via its keypad or a traditional key.

In line with most of Yale’s smart lock offerings, this Z-Wave lock utilizes a replaceable module for connectivity. However, this module is not available as a separate purchase, preventing users from transferring it to an existing Yale lock.

The new fingerprint lock is also compatible with ADT Plus’s Trusted Neighbors feature, which necessitates ADT’s professional monitoring plan starting at $24.99 per month. This feature streamlines access for authorized individuals while you’re away, leveraging Google Nest security cameras to recognize their faces and disarm the system. The new lock enhances this functionality by allowing them to disarm the system and unlock the door using their fingerprint.

Recently, ADT also rolled out Home Away modes, automating the security system based on the location of household phones to lock doors and arm the system when everyone is out, and disarm it upon a person’s arrival. Together with fingerprint control, these features are aimed at simplifying the management of an ADT security system significantly.
